Geneva has a tradition of hosting international organisations that spans over 150 years. Since the creation of the Red Cross in 1863, International Geneva has grown and diversified considerably and is currently one of the first poles of world governance. It thus embodies a major international commitment of the Confederation and Geneva in favor of humanity.
This website is designed to help Geneva based global players being aware of the resources available to them. It contains the most comprehensive lists of international organizations, NGOs, permanent missions and other actors. It hosts the largest compilation of international events taking place in Geneva. News linked to international organizations are posted on a daily basis. The various supports proposed by the host authorities and their partners are also highlighted.
Genève internationale mandated Inovae to develop its web presence to make it an essential communication hub for the Canton and the international community.
Challenges
Provide visitors with clear and organised information
The two main objectives of this website are to help the public to get to know Geneva better in its dimension as the world's leading center for international cooperation and to provide those involved in this cooperation with information facilitating the accomplishment of their mission, particularly with regard to the resources available in Geneva.
The project was structured around several axes:
- the integration of the existing database (who's who)
- the implementation of a component approach to offer great flexibility to publishers
- a redesigned information architecture
An important point of this new site was to optimise navigation and user experience, on mobile, tablet and desktop.
Solutions and technologies
Leverage the strength of Drupal for flexibility and content management
The site was developed on the open source Drupal 8 framework, a content management system (CMS) renowned for its flexibility and security standards. We created the site using our distribution called "Cappuccino" (discover our solution), a standardised base built on a component approach.
A component approach to strengthen publishing capacities
Custom editing tools allow editors to create content that is both informative and engaging by choosing from a variety of editing components.
Enhancement of the diversity and richness of content
The types of content whose volume is important (agenda, citations, list of members) have been enhanced by a modern display highlighting the current categorisation with intuitive signage.
More ergonomic and intuitive navigation
The ergonomics of the site have been revisited in order to enhance the richness of the content and help the Internet user to navigate the diversity of the content.
A powerful search engine
Search results play a vital role in the user experience, communicating the richness and diversity of content through the results returned, while making each result perceived as relevant.
